Company intelligence / Profile preview
PolyMASC Pharmaceuticals was a pioneering UK-based biotechnology company specializing in PEGylation technology to enhance the therapeutic properties of biopharmaceuticals. Founded as a spin-out from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, the company developed the proprietary OptiPEG platform, which involved the covalent attachment of polyethylene glycol (PEG) to drugs to increase their circulation time and reduce immunogenicity. PolyMASC was listed on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market before being acquired by Valentis, Inc. in 1999 for approximately $40 million. The company's technology was instrumental in the early development of PEGylated therapeutics and was later licensed to various pharmaceutical partners for the optimization of proteins, peptides, and small molecules.
