Portland Orthopaedics was an Australian medical device company that specialized in the design, manufacture, and commercialization of orthopedic implants for hip and knee reconstruction. The company's product portfolio was built around the 'Direct To Cortex' (DTC) technology, originally developed by Dr. Ron Sekel to address challenges in revision hip surgery where significant bone loss is present. Its flagship products included the DTC revision hip and the M-COR modular primary hip, both of which received FDA clearance and were marketed globally, particularly in the United States through a partnership with Plus Orthopedics. Despite achieving regulatory milestones and international sales, the company faced financial challenges and entered voluntary administration in 2009, eventually leading to the cessation of its medical device operations.
