PowderJect

PowderJect was a prominent British biotechnology company specializing in the development and manufacture of vaccines and needle-free drug delivery systems. Founded in 1993 based on technology from the University of Oxford, the company initially focused on a supersonic needle-free injection device that delivered powdered drugs or vaccines through the skin. It later expanded significantly into the vaccine market through strategic acquisitions, becoming one of the world's largest vaccine manufacturers with products for influenza, yellow fever, and cholera. The company's lead product, Fluvirin, was a major influenza vaccine produced at its facility in Speke, UK. PowderJect was acquired by Chiron Corporation in 2003 for approximately $878 million. Following subsequent acquisitions, its assets are now part of CSL (Seqirus) and GSK.
