Power Medical Interventions (PMI) was a medical technology company that pioneered the development of computer-assisted, power-actuated surgical stapling systems. The company's "Intelligent Surgical Instruments" platform, featuring the iDrive and iReach devices, utilized microprocessor-controlled technology to provide surgeons with enhanced precision and control during minimally invasive procedures. These systems were designed to improve staple line security and tissue management in complex surgeries, including gastrointestinal, thoracic, and bariatric operations. In 2009, PMI was acquired by Covidien for approximately $64 million, and its innovative digital stapling technology was subsequently integrated into the surgical portfolios of Covidien and later Medtronic.
