PRAXIM

Praxim was a French medical technology company that pioneered computer-assisted surgery (CAS) and surgical navigation systems. Founded in 1994 as a spin-off from the TIMC-IMAG laboratory in Grenoble, the company developed the Surgetics platform, which provided surgeons with real-time 3D visualization and guidance during orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures. A hallmark of Praxim's innovation was its 'Bone-Morphing' technology, an 'imageless' navigation solution that created patient-specific 3D bone models from intraoperative data, eliminating the need for pre-operative CT scans. This technology was designed to improve the precision of implant placement in total knee and hip arthroplasty while minimizing surgical trauma. In 2006, Praxim was acquired by Medtronic to bolster its navigation and imaging business. The acquisition allowed Medtronic to integrate Praxim's advanced software and hardware into its global surgical solutions portfolio.
