preCARDIA

preCARDIA was a private U.S. medical device company focused on treating acute decompensated heart failure with a catheter-based system designed to reduce cardiac preload and promote decongestion. Its lead product, the preCARDIA system, combined a proprietary superior vena cava balloon catheter with a controller that intermittently occluded venous return to lower cardiac filling pressures and improve cardiac and renal function. The company advanced the system through an FDA early feasibility study and received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation. preCARDIA was founded around 2017 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and was acquired by Abiomed in June 2021. Following that transaction, it appears to have ceased operating as an independent company.
