Prexton Therapeutics

Prexton Therapeutics was a Swiss biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing innovative therapies for Parkinson's disease. The company specialized in positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 4 (mGluR4), a target aimed at balancing signaling in the brain's basal ganglia. Its lead clinical candidate, foliglurax, was a first-in-class small molecule designed to treat motor symptoms and levodopa-induced dyskinesia. Founded in 2012 as a spin-off from Merck Serono, Prexton was part of a growing cluster of neurology-focused biotechs in Geneva. In 2018, the company was acquired by Lundbeck for up to €905 million to strengthen Lundbeck's position in movement disorders.
