Prion Developmental Laboratories (PDL) was a biotechnology company specializing in the design and manufacture of rapid diagnostic tests for Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs). The company's primary focus was on detecting misfolded prion proteins in animals, specifically targeting Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Mad Cow Disease) and Chronic Wasting Disease in deer and elk. PDL utilized proprietary manufacturing technology to produce cost-effective, laboratory-quality assays intended for use in both clinical and field settings. Originally a subsidiary of Efoora, Inc., the company was later involved in acquisition proceedings by Abviva following the parent company's entry into receivership. Its products were part of significant international evaluations for BSE testing in the early 2000s.
