Pro-Neuron

Pro-Neuron, Inc. was a biopharmaceutical company founded in 1987 and based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which later transitioned into Wellstat Therapeutics Corporation. The company specialized in the development of acylated pyrimidine nucleosides, a proprietary platform designed to enhance the delivery and bioavailability of therapeutic agents for neurological, mitochondrial, and metabolic disorders. Its most notable achievement was the development of uridine triacetate, which received FDA approval under the brand names Vistogard (for the emergency treatment of fluorouracil or capecitabine toxicity) and Xuriden (for hereditary orotic aciduria). Founded by serial entrepreneur Samuel J. Wohlstadter, Pro-Neuron's research also encompassed treatments for mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes and autism. The company's legacy and product portfolio continue to be managed under the Wellstat Therapeutics banner.
