Overview
Proteus developed the first FDA-cleared "digital pill"—a medication embedded with an ingestible sensor that tracks ingestion events via a wearable patch and mobile app. The flagship product was commercialized as Abilify MyCite® in partnership with Otsuka for schizophrenia. Clinical pilots demonstrated feasibility for improving medication adherence across several chronic conditions. However, widespread adoption was limited by complexity and reimbursement challenges.
