ProxyMed was a prominent healthcare information technology company that specialized in providing electronic connectivity and transaction processing services for the healthcare industry. The company's primary business involved facilitating electronic data interchange (EDI) between healthcare providers, payers, pharmacies, and laboratories to streamline administrative and clinical workflows. Key services included electronic claims processing, laboratory results delivery, and electronic prescription routing. At its peak, ProxyMed operated one of the largest independent health information networks in the United States, connecting thousands of physicians and hundreds of pharmacies. In 2005, the company rebranded as MedAvant Healthcare Solutions before eventually filing for bankruptcy and selling its core assets to Emdeon in 2008.
