Company intelligence / Profile preview
Psynomics was a personalized medicine company focused on the development of genetic tests for neuropsychiatric conditions, specifically bipolar disorder and depression. The company's core product was a proprietary genetic test that analyzed the G protein-coupled receptor kinase 3 (GRK3) gene to assess a patient's predisposition to bipolar disorder. Founded by researchers from the University of California, San Diego, Psynomics sought to bring objective genomic data to the field of psychiatry to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. Despite its early entry into the direct-to-consumer psychiatric genomics market, the company faced criticism regarding the clinical validity of its markers. Psynomics eventually ceased operations after failing to gain widespread clinical adoption.
