Q-One Biotech was a pioneering contract research organization (CRO) and contract manufacturing organization (CMO) based in Glasgow, Scotland, specializing in biosafety testing and process validation for the biopharmaceutical industry. Founded in 1987 as a spin-out from the University of Glasgow, the company became a global leader in viral safety, providing essential services such as viral clearance studies, cell bank characterization, and GMP manufacturing for vaccines and gene therapies. Its expertise was critical in the development of international regulatory guidelines for biologics, including the ICH Q5A guidelines. The company was acquired by BioReliance in 2003, which subsequently became part of Merck KGaA's life science business, MilliporeSigma.
