Company intelligence / Profile preview
QLT Plug Delivery, Inc. was a specialized subsidiary of QLT Inc. (now Novelion Therapeutics) dedicated to the development of a proprietary punctal plug drug delivery system (PPDS) for ophthalmic applications. The company's platform technology utilized a sustained-release ocular insert placed in the punctum to provide continuous, controlled delivery of medications to the tear film, aiming to replace traditional eye drops and improve patient compliance. Its lead candidate, the Latanoprost Punctal Plug Delivery System (L-PPDS), successfully reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. In 2013, QLT Inc. divested the PPDS technology and associated assets to Mati Therapeutics, a company founded by former QLT executives to continue the platform's development. The parent company, QLT Inc., subsequently merged with Aegerion Pharmaceuticals to form Novelion Therapeutics, which entered liquidation in 2020.
