Química Knoll de México

Química Knoll de México was the Mexican subsidiary of the German pharmaceutical firm Knoll AG, which operated as the pharmaceutical division of BASF (BASF Pharma). The company was a significant player in the Mexican healthcare market, focusing on the production and distribution of treatments for cardiovascular disease, pain, and metabolic disorders. Its portfolio included well-known products such as the thyroid medication Synthroid and the anti-obesity drug Meridia (sibutramine). In 2001, Abbott Laboratories acquired the global Knoll/BASF Pharma business for approximately $6.9 billion to strengthen its immunology and cardiovascular pipelines. Following the acquisition, the Mexican operations were integrated into Abbott's infrastructure. With the 2013 spin-off of Abbott's research-based pharmaceuticals, the legacy of Química Knoll's products and operations transitioned to AbbVie.
