Quadrant Drug Delivery was a UK-based biotechnology company specializing in the development of innovative drug delivery systems and protein stabilization technologies. Based in Nottingham, the company was best known for its proprietary microsphere technology and the development of Recombumin, the first commercially available recombinant human albumin used as an excipient. Its platforms were designed to enhance the delivery and stability of biopharmaceuticals across various routes, including inhalation and injection. In 2000, Quadrant was acquired by Elan Corporation for approximately $200 million to integrate its delivery expertise into Elan's portfolio. The company's legacy continues through its technologies, which have been utilized by major pharmaceutical partners like GSK and AstraZeneca. Following subsequent corporate restructuring, parts of the business evolved into entities such as Albumedix, now part of Sartorius.
