Company intelligence / Profile preview
Quincy Medical Center, originally established as Quincy Hospital in 1890, was a prominent community teaching hospital located in Quincy, Massachusetts. For over a century, it served as a vital healthcare hub for the South Shore region, providing a full spectrum of services including emergency care, diagnostic imaging, and surgical procedures. In 2011, the institution was acquired by Steward Health Care System, transitioning from a municipal/non-profit model to a for-profit healthcare provider. Despite its long history, the hospital faced significant financial headwinds and declining inpatient volumes in the early 21st century. Steward Health Care ultimately closed the main hospital facility in late 2014, though it maintained a satellite emergency department at the location for several years afterward.
