Overview
The R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI) was a major global drug discovery and development organization within the Johnson & Johnson family of companies. Established in 1988, it consolidated the research activities of several J&J subsidiaries to streamline the path from laboratory discovery to clinical application. The institute was responsible for the development of several landmark therapies, including Topamax for epilepsy and Procrit for anemia. In 2001, PRI was merged with the research arm of Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical to form Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development (J&JPRD). This entity eventually became part of Janssen Research & Development, which continues to drive J&J's pharmaceutical innovation today.
