Rainforest Nutritionals was a botanical drug development company established in 2001 by former executives of Shaman Pharmaceuticals. The company focused on the discovery and development of therapeutic products derived from tropical plants, utilizing ethnobotanical research. Its lead candidate, SB-300, was a standardized extract from the Croton lechleri tree (Dragon's Blood) intended for treating gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions. Rainforest Nutritionals aimed to validate traditional medicinal knowledge through rigorous clinical trials. The company eventually ceased operations, with its intellectual property and research contributing to the later development of Crofelemer by Napo Pharmaceuticals.
