Ranbaxy Research Laboratories

Ranbaxy Research Laboratories was the dedicated research and development division of Ranbaxy Laboratories, formerly India's largest pharmaceutical company. The laboratory was instrumental in establishing India's presence in the global generics market and pioneered the development of novel drug delivery systems and new chemical entities. Its most notable achievement was the launch of Synriam, the first new drug discovered and developed entirely in India for the treatment of malaria. Following a period of ownership by the Japanese firm Daiichi Sankyo, Ranbaxy was acquired by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries in 2014 for approximately $4 billion. Today, the research facilities and intellectual property of Ranbaxy Research Laboratories are fully integrated into Sun Pharma's global R&D network. The division's legacy is defined by its role in transitioning the Indian pharmaceutical sector from manufacturing-led growth to innovation-driven research.
