Red Mountain Pharmaceuticals was a development-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Birmingham, Alabama, focused on the discovery and development of novel therapies for metabolic diseases. Spun out from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the company primarily targeted the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity through the development of dual-acting peptide agonists. Its lead program, RMP-01, was designed as a once-weekly dual GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist to improve glycemic control and promote weight loss. The company also explored the inhibition of thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) as a mechanism to preserve beta-cell function in diabetic patients. While the company was active in the early 2010s, it has since become inactive, with its core technologies remaining part of the UAB research portfolio or licensed to other entities.
