Reflexion Pharmaceuticals was a biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of mirror-image (D-amino acid) peptide therapeutics. Utilizing a proprietary mirror-image phage display platform, the company engineered peptides composed entirely of D-amino acids, which are the structural mirror images of natural L-amino acids. These D-peptides are highly resistant to proteolytic degradation, offering improved stability and reduced immunogenicity compared to traditional peptide drugs. The company's lead programs targeted Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. Reflexion was acquired by Kala Pharmaceuticals in 2015 to integrate its D-peptide technology into Kala's ophthalmology-focused portfolio.
