Reid-Rowell

Reid-Rowell was a specialty pharmaceutical company formed in 1985 through the merger of Reid-Provident Laboratories and Rowell Laboratories. The company established a strong market presence in the United States, focusing on therapeutic areas such as gastroenterology, endocrinology, and women's health. Its commercial portfolio featured prominent brands including Rowasa for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Creon for pancreatic insufficiency. Additionally, the company was a significant player in the hormone replacement therapy market with products like Estratest and Prometrium. In 1986, Reid-Rowell was acquired by the Belgian conglomerate Solvay, becoming the foundation of Solvay Pharmaceuticals in the U.S. Following Solvay's acquisition by Abbott Laboratories in 2010 and the subsequent spin-off of AbbVie, many of Reid-Rowell's legacy products remain clinically relevant today.
