Reliant

Reliant Pharmaceuticals was a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company based in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, that focused on the development and commercialization of cardiovascular therapies. Founded in 1999, the company built a robust portfolio of branded products through strategic in-licensing and internal development, most notably the omega-3-acid ethyl ester treatment Lovaza (formerly Omacor). In December 2007, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) acquired Reliant for $1.65 billion in cash to strengthen its cardiovascular franchise. At the time of its acquisition, Reliant's portfolio included several key treatments for hypertension, arrhythmia, and hypertriglyceridemia, with Lovaza serving as its flagship product. The company was recognized for its strong sales and marketing infrastructure, which successfully drove significant market share for its cardiovascular offerings.
