Renessen

Renessen was a biotechnology joint venture established in 1999 as a 50/50 partnership between Monsanto and Cargill. The company focused on developing and commercializing genetically modified crops with enhanced nutritional profiles for the global animal feed market. Its flagship product, Mavera high-lysine corn, was designed to reduce the need for synthetic lysine supplements in poultry and swine diets. By combining Monsanto's seed technology with Cargill's grain processing and marketing capabilities, Renessen aimed to capture value across the entire agricultural supply chain. The venture was eventually dissolved in 2010 after facing regulatory hurdles and shifting strategic priorities within its parent companies.
