Renewcell

Renewcell was a Swedish industrial biotechnology company specializing in the chemical recycling of textile waste into high-quality dissolving pulp. The company's proprietary technology allowed for the transformation of cotton and other cellulosic fibers into a branded material called Circulose, which could be used by fiber producers to create new virgin-quality textile fibers. Despite establishing a large-scale commercial plant (Renewcell 1) and partnering with major fashion brands like H&M and Zara, the company faced significant liquidity challenges and filed for bankruptcy in early 2024. In June 2024, the company's assets and operations were acquired by the investment firm Altor, which intends to continue the business under the name Circulose.
