Renix Therapeutics

Renix Therapeutics was a development-stage biotechnology company dedicated to creating innovative treatments for chronic kidney disease (CKD). The company's primary focus was the development of a next-generation phosphate binder for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia, a common and serious condition in CKD patients. Unlike many existing treatments, Renix's lead candidate was designed to be non-calcium, non-magnesium, and iron-free, potentially reducing the side effect profile for patients. The company was founded by Dr. Richard Sherman, a renowned nephrologist with a history of successful ventures in the renal space. In April 2013, Renix was acquired by OPKO Health to bolster its renal product pipeline. The acquisition integrated Renix's technology into OPKO's broader strategy of addressing the unmet needs of patients with stage 3 and 4 CKD.
