Company intelligence / Profile preview
Rennovia was an industrial biotechnology company that specialized in the development of high-performance, bio-based chemicals using advanced catalysis technology. Founded in 2009 and based in Santa Clara, California, the company utilized a proprietary high-throughput discovery platform to identify and optimize chemical processes for producing renewable building blocks like adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine. These chemicals are essential for the production of nylon-6,6 and other large-market polymers, offering a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived equivalents. Despite establishing significant strategic partnerships with Archer Daniels Midland and Johnson Matthey, Rennovia was unable to secure the necessary capital to transition to full-scale commercial production. The company ceased operations in early 2018 and subsequently liquidated its assets, with its intellectual property being acquired by Archer Daniels Midland.
