Respa Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Madison, Mississippi, that focused on the respiratory therapeutic area. The company specialized in the development and commercialization of branded prescription products for the treatment of cough, cold, and allergy symptoms. Its portfolio featured several established brands, including Respa-AR, Respa-DM, and Respa-BR, which utilized small molecule combinations of antihistamines, decongestants, and antitussives. In May 2012, Respa was acquired by Pernix Therapeutics for an initial cash payment of $1.2 million plus ongoing royalty payments. This acquisition allowed Pernix to strengthen its respiratory franchise and leverage Respa's existing product sales.
