Company intelligence / Profile preview
Reverdia was a prominent industrial biotechnology joint venture between Royal DSM and Roquette, established to commercialize bio-based succinic acid. The company marketed its flagship product under the brand name Biosuccinium, produced using a proprietary low-pH yeast fermentation technology that offered significant environmental advantages over traditional petroleum-based methods. Operating a world-first commercial-scale plant in Cassano Spinola, Italy, Reverdia provided sustainable building blocks for industries ranging from bioplastics and polyurethanes to pharmaceuticals. In 2019, the joint venture was dissolved, with Roquette assuming full control of the manufacturing facility and the Biosuccinium brand, while DSM transitioned to an exclusive licensing model for the underlying technology.
