Company intelligence / Profile preview
Rexar Pharmaceuticals was a development-stage biotechnology company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, focused on the discovery of novel treatments for metabolic disorders, particularly obesity. Founded in 1995 by former Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis scientists, including Roger Newton and Charles Bisgaier, the company utilized its expertise in lipid metabolism to develop small molecule therapeutics. The company's research programs targeted pathways involved in appetite regulation and energy expenditure. In June 1998, Rexar was acquired by Pharmacia & Upjohn for approximately $60 million to strengthen its metabolic disease pipeline. Following the acquisition, the founders went on to establish Esperion Therapeutics.
