Rhône Mérieux

Rhône Mérieux was a leading global animal health company based in Lyon, France, specializing in the development and manufacture of veterinary vaccines and pharmaceuticals. Originally a subsidiary of Institut Mérieux and later Rhône-Poulenc, the company became renowned for its innovations in rabies prevention and feline immunology. In 1997, Rhône Mérieux merged with Merck & Co.'s animal health division, MSD AgVet, to create Merial, which became one of the world's largest animal health enterprises. The company's legacy continues through its contributions to veterinary medicine, particularly in the fields of companion animal and livestock health. Its most notable commercial success included the development of the blockbuster antiparasitic Frontline.
