Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Consumer

Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Consumer was the dedicated over-the-counter (OTC) and consumer health division of Rhône-Poulenc Rorer (RPR), a global pharmaceutical company formed by the 1990 merger of France's Rhône-Poulenc and the U.S.-based Rorer Group. The division managed a significant portfolio of household brands, most notably the antacid Maalox and the buffered aspirin Ascriptin. It operated as a major player in the global consumer healthcare market throughout the 1990s, focusing on gastrointestinal health, pain management, and respiratory care. In 1999, its parent company merged with Hoechst AG to form Aventis, which subsequently merged with Sanofi-Synthélabo in 2004. Today, the legacy brands and operations of Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Consumer are integrated into Sanofi's Consumer Healthcare business unit.
