Company intelligence / Profile preview
Rhodia Farma was the pharmaceutical division of the French specialty chemical company Rhodia, with its most significant operations based in Brazil. The company originated from the pharmaceutical activities of Rhône-Poulenc and maintained a strong presence in the Latin American market throughout the 20th century. It specialized in the production of essential medicines, including analgesics, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics, leveraging Rhodia's global leadership in salicylic acid production. Following the 1998 spin-off of Rhodia from Rhône-Poulenc and the subsequent merger of Rhône-Poulenc with Hoechst to form Aventis, Rhodia Farma's assets were integrated into the Aventis (now Sanofi) portfolio. This transition marked the exit of the Rhodia Group from direct pharmaceutical manufacturing as it pivoted toward specialty chemicals and materials.
