Ribapharm

Ribapharm was a biotechnology company primarily focused on the development of antiviral and anticancer small molecule therapeutics. Spun off from ICN Pharmaceuticals in 2002, the company was best known for its intellectual property surrounding ribavirin, a cornerstone treatment for chronic Hepatitis C. Its pipeline included taribavirin (Viramidine), a prodrug of ribavirin designed to reduce hemolytic anemia side effects. The company's revenue was largely driven by significant royalty streams from partners like Roche and Schering-Plough. In 2003, following a period of corporate restructuring and shareholder litigation, Ribapharm was re-acquired by its parent company, ICN Pharmaceuticals. ICN Pharmaceuticals subsequently rebranded as Valeant Pharmaceuticals, which is now known as Bausch Health.
