Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ribopharma was a pioneering German biotechnology company and the first in the world to focus exclusively on the development of RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics. Founded in 2000 and based in Kulmbach, the company specialized in using small interfering RNA (siRNA) to silence specific genes associated with disease. In 2003, Ribopharma merged with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals in an all-stock transaction, a pivotal event that consolidated the nascent RNAi industry and established Alnylam's European operations. The merger combined Ribopharma's early intellectual property and siRNA expertise with Alnylam's resources, laying the groundwork for the first generation of approved RNAi medicines.
