Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals was a Boulder, Colorado biotechnology company focused on RNA-based therapeutics and later RNA interference medicines. Founded in 1992, the company originally developed ribozyme-based therapeutics and diagnostics, then shifted its strategy toward RNAi and renamed itself Sirna Therapeutics in April 2003. Its pipeline included siRNA programs spanning ophthalmology, hepatitis C and other therapeutic areas, and it was recognized for advancing one of the first clinical siRNA programs in age-related macular degeneration. Sirna was acquired by Merck & Co. in 2006 for approximately $1.1 billion in cash. The original Ribozyme/Sirna entity is no longer active as an independent company.
