Richardson-Vicks

Richardson-Vicks was a prominent American consumer goods company specializing in over-the-counter pharmaceuticals and personal care products. The company is most recognized for its Vicks brand, which includes iconic products such as VapoRub, NyQuil, and DayQuil. In addition to its respiratory health portfolio, Richardson-Vicks owned several major beauty and skincare brands, including Oil of Olay, Pantene, and Clearasil. The company was formed in 1981 following the divestiture of the ethical pharmaceutical business of its predecessor, Richardson-Merrell. In 1985, Richardson-Vicks was acquired by Procter & Gamble for approximately $1.24 billion after a hostile takeover attempt by Unilever. Today, its brands continue to be core components of Procter & Gamble's global healthcare and beauty divisions.
