Overview

A.H. Robins Company was a prominent American pharmaceutical manufacturer known for developing and marketing iconic consumer healthcare brands such as Robitussin and ChapStick. Founded in 1866, the company grew into a major global player in the over-the-counter and prescription drug markets. However, it became embroiled in significant legal controversy during the 1970s and 1980s due to the Dalkon Shield intrauterine device, which led to thousands of personal injury lawsuits and the company's eventual bankruptcy. In 1989, A.H. Robins was acquired by American Home Products, which later became Wyeth and was subsequently absorbed by Pfizer. Today, many of its former products continue to be marketed under the Pfizer or Haleon umbrellas.
