Powers-Weightman-Rosengarten (PWR) was a prominent American pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturer based in Philadelphia. The company was a leading producer of quinine, an essential treatment for malaria, and other medicinal chemicals during the 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1927, the company merged with Merck & Co., significantly expanding Merck's manufacturing capabilities and market presence in the United States. This merger was a pivotal moment in the history of the American pharmaceutical industry, helping to establish Merck as a dominant global player. Frederic Rosengarten, a key figure in the company, subsequently served as the chairman of the board for Merck & Co.
