Roslin BioMed

Roslin BioMed was a Scottish biotechnology company established to commercialize the landmark nuclear transfer (cloning) technology developed at the Roslin Institute, which famously produced Dolly the sheep. The company focused on applying this technology to the fields of regenerative medicine, xenotransplantation, and the production of therapeutic proteins in the milk of transgenic livestock. By leveraging somatic cell nuclear transfer, Roslin BioMed aimed to develop patient-specific stem cell therapies to treat various degenerative conditions. In 1999, the company was acquired by the US-based Geron Corporation, which sought to combine Roslin's cloning expertise with its own human embryonic stem cell technology.
