RottaPharm-Madaus

Rottapharm Madaus was a leading European pharmaceutical group formed by the 2007 merger of Italy's Rottapharm and Germany's Madaus. The company specialized in the research, development, and commercialization of innovative drugs and consumer healthcare products, with a dominant presence in rheumatology, gastroenterology, and urology. Its flagship product, Dona (crystalline glucosamine sulfate), established the global medical standard for the treatment of osteoarthritis. In 2014, the group was acquired by Meda AB for approximately $3.1 billion, and through subsequent acquisitions by Mylan, its assets are now part of Viatris. Prior to the acquisition, the company's high-tech R&D division was spun off into an independent entity known as Rottapharm Biotech.
