Rowell Laboratories was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Baudette, Minnesota, that focused on the development and marketing of niche prescription medications. Founded in 1935, the company established a strong presence in the fields of gastroenterology and dermatology. It produced well-known treatments such as Chenix for gallstones and Cortenema for ulcerative colitis. In 1986, the company was acquired by the Belgian firm Solvay, which sought to expand its footprint in the United States. The acquisition integrated Rowell's specialized portfolio into Solvay's global operations. Today, the historical Rowell operations and facilities are part of the legacy of AbbVie following subsequent industry consolidations.
