ROX Medical developed the "ROX Coupler," a minimally invasive stent-like implant that creates a controlled arteriovenous fistula between the iliac artery and vein to lower blood pressure in patients with resistant hypertension. The device showed immediate and sustained blood pressure reduction in clinical studies, including a landmark randomized controlled trial published in The Lancet. The company also explored use for hypoxemia in COPD by improving oxygen delivery via therapeutic fistula creation. Despite promising data and significant venture funding, the company was ultimately dissolved before commercialization or FDA approval.
