Rustenburg Platinum Group

Rustenburg Platinum Mines is a major South African mining company and a primary producer of platinum group metals (PGMs), including platinum, palladium, and rhodium. While the company is fundamentally a mining and metallurgical operation, it serves as a critical upstream provider for the healthcare and life sciences sectors. Its PGM products are essential raw materials for the production of platinum-based chemotherapy agents such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin. Furthermore, the company's metals are utilized in the manufacturing of high-precision medical devices, including pacemakers, stents, and surgical instruments. Historically a core part of Anglo American Platinum, the Rustenburg operations were sold to Sibanye-Stillwater in 2016, though the entity remains a cornerstone of the global PGM supply chain.
