Company intelligence / Profile preview
Rx3 Pharmaceuticals, which later rebranded as Trius Therapeutics, was a San Diego-based biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering and developing novel antibiotics for treating life-threatening infections. The company's primary achievement was the development of tedizolid phosphate (Sivextro), a next-generation oxazolidinone antibiotic targeting MRSA and other Gram-positive bacteria. Trius Therapeutics went public in 2010 and was later acquired by Cubist Pharmaceuticals in 2013 for approximately $707 million plus contingent value rights. Cubist was subsequently acquired by Merck & Co. in 2015, which now markets the company's lead product. The company's research was characterized by a focus on structure-based drug design to overcome antibiotic resistance.
