Company intelligence / Profile preview
Rydelle Laboratories was a consumer healthcare subsidiary of S.C. Johnson & Son, primarily focused on the development and marketing of over-the-counter (OTC) dermatological and gastrointestinal products. The company is most recognized for its stewardship of the Aveeno brand, which pioneered the use of colloidal oatmeal in skincare for treating conditions like eczema and dry skin. In addition to dermatology, Rydelle managed the Fiberall line of dietary fiber supplements and the Rhuli brand of topical analgesics. In 1989, the company divested its flagship Aveeno brand to Johnson & Johnson, a move that significantly altered its market presence. Rydelle also engaged in a notable joint venture with the Japanese firm Lion Corporation, known as Rydelle-Lion, to expand its consumer health offerings. Today, the company is no longer an active independent entity, as its primary brands have been integrated into the portfolios of larger pharmaceutical corporations.
