RZPD German Resource Center for Genome Research

RZPD German Resource Center for Genome Research was a leading European provider of genomic resources and services, originally established in 1995 to support the German Human Genome Project. The organization operated as a central repository and service center, offering an extensive collection of cDNA clones, genomic libraries, and high-throughput technologies such as microarrays and DNA sequencing. In 2000, it transitioned from a publicly funded project into a commercial GmbH to better serve the global research community. At its height, RZPD maintained one of the world's largest biobanks of molecular biological materials, including human and model organism clones. The company was acquired in 2007 by the UK-based life sciences group Source BioScience for approximately £1.7 million. This acquisition integrated RZPD's significant technical expertise and vast clone library into Source BioScience's international operations.
