Sabex was a leading Canadian pharmaceutical company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of generic injectable drugs and ophthalmic products. Founded in 1980 and based in Boucherville, Quebec, the company became a dominant player in the Canadian hospital market, providing a wide range of essential medicines including anesthetics and anti-infectives. Sabex was particularly noted for its expertise in aseptic manufacturing and its extensive portfolio of generic sterile injectables. In 2004, the company was acquired by Sandoz, the generic pharmaceuticals division of Novartis, for approximately $565 million. Following the acquisition, Sabex's operations were integrated into Sandoz Canada, significantly expanding Sandoz's global presence in the injectable medicines sector.
