Company intelligence / Profile preview
Sal. Oppenheim was a prestigious German private bank founded in 1789, historically headquartered in Cologne. The firm was a major player in European private banking, asset management, and investment banking for over two centuries. Following significant financial losses during the 2008 global financial crisis and its exposure to the collapse of Arcandor, the bank was acquired by Deutsche Bank in 2010. While the bank was an active investor and underwriter in the life sciences and biotechnology sectors during the late 20th and early 21st centuries, it was not a healthcare company itself. In 2017, Deutsche Bank retired the Sal. Oppenheim brand and fully integrated its operations into its Wealth Management division.
